YouthNet demanded to Declare November 12 coastal day

Speakers demanded that the authorities concerned declare November 12 'Upokul Dibas' (Coastal Day) to remember the victims who were killed in a devastating tidal surge on this day in 1970.

They made the demand at the programmes organised in Barguna and Patuakhali to commemorate this day.

Over 10 lakh people of coastal areas were killed in the disaster.

To recall the victims, various programmes, including lighting of candles and discussions, were held in the two coastal districts yesterday and the day before.      

In Barguna, local journalist Arifur Rahman on Sunday arranged candle lighting programme at Shuvo Sandhya sea beach in Taltali upazila to mark the day. People from all walks of life took part in the programme. The government should declare the day as 'Coastal Day to remember the victims, said organiser Arif.

Meanwhile, local organisation Upokulio Unnayan O Gobeshona Forum in Patuakhali's Galachipa upazila yesterday demanded declaration of November 12 as 'Upokul Dibas' (Coastal Day).

Sankar Lal Das, convener of the organisation, submitted a memorandum to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) for forwarding to the disaster management and relief minister.

They observed various programmes, including candle lighting and discussions, in Patuakhali town on the occasion.

People from all walks of life, including journalists and public representatives, joined the programmes.

A procession was brought out in the upazila headquarters marking the day. Kalapara Press Club organised the programme.

Later, a discussion was held at the press club. Jibon Kumar Mondol, vice president of Kalapara Press Club, presided over the meeting.

YouthNet for Climate Justice receive Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018

Thirty organisations won the Joy Bangla Youth Award 2018 for their outstanding contributions to promoting youth employability, education, sports, cultural activities, and an end to violence against women.  

The 30 organisations were selected from a short-list of 50-nominated organisations under 10 categories, including skill development, universal education, job management for differently-abled people, cultural revolution, innovation, sports and fitness, creating public awareness and reducing gender discrimination.

Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Affairs Adviser and Centre for Research and Information (CRI) Chairperson Sajeeb Wazed Joy handed over the awards to top 10 organisations at Sheikh Hasina National Youth Center in Savar yesterday afternoon.

Earlier, a two-hour session on women's rights and safety, entitled “#BeBrave”, moderated by Dhaka University Gender Studies Associate Professor Sheikh Imtiaz was held.

The third edition of the Joy Bangla Youth Award began on Saturday with 50 youth-led organisations and platforms.

Young Bangla, the youth platform of non-profit organisation CRI, handed over certificates to the organisations selected for the award on the first day of the programme.

A discussion titled “Career Talk” was held in the opening session of the day, where 200 people including 60 winners of the previous two editions attended.

Later in the day, Young Bangla organised a similar event styled “Let's Talk”, in which the topic “Tarunner Joy Bangla” was discussed.

At present, working with 10 thousand marginalized and endangered people in 10 colonies of 6 divisions and Barisal city are working with the Youth Net for Climate Justice. Youthnet for Climate Justice became involved in 25 young organizations in 2016 to highlight the voices of children and adolescents and youth at the policy-critical level to address the South-Lake climate influences with the 'Safe World Green Forests' The organization, which came to the spotlight in Barisal, for the first time in the country, organized a two-day climate conference on youth summit. In this two-day conference, more than 500 children and young people of Barisal Division, the pioneers of the life-giving program, environmentalists and media people contributed to the youth through exchange of experience. Barisal announced the announcement of the conference in the Jatiya Sangsad and several international forums Barisal demanded by the organization. Even the organizer's co-ordinator Sohanur Rahman took part in the meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in March this year. The organization is not limited to meetings or seminars only. The range of their activities has gradually expanded by organizing youths in Barisal Division to tackle disaster, to protect environment and to adapt to climate change. Message of consciousness spreading to safe homes and sanitation, monthly health care, sexual and reproductive health as well as to prevent child marriage. Besides, the organization organizes training with Brac University in Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barisal districts to develop the skills and leadership of grassroots youth of the tribal areas affected by climate change. The organization has also worked on transparency in Climate Fund. Recognition has contributed to the development of society. In order to overcome the adverse effects of climate change in Barisal, coastal non-people of Barisal have won 'Joy Bangla Youth Award' for their contribution in establishing their rightful rights. Youthnet for Climate Justice Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Information and Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy handed over this award to the chief coordinator of YouthNet, Shakila Islam, in the Climate Change and Environmental Conservation Development category, among the best 30 organizations on youth. In three years, the organization has got wings in every district and upazila of Barisal Division. More than 1200 young and young women have joined. These skeptical youths are moving forward in front of many obstacles, overcoming adverse environmental obstacles and ignoring the hostile environment. The message of consciousness is reaching from door to door. There is a plan to spread this awareness in larger areas in front of them.

`বিশ্বজুড়ে বাংলা, ভাষার বিকৃতি প্রতিরোধে সোচ্চার তরুণ সমাজ আমরা'

বরিশাল কেন্দ্রীয় শহিদ মিনার প্রাঙ্গণে চারুকলার দেয়ালচিত্রে ফুটে উঠেছে তরুণ সমাজের সোস্যাল মিডিয়ায় ভাষা বিকৃতি 

 সোহানুর রহমান : ‘বাহান্নতে মুখের ভাষা কিনছি বুকের খুনে রে/ বরকতেরা রক্ত দিছে বিশ্ব অবাক শুনে রে,/ দিছি রক্ত জন্মাবধি সাগর-সাগর নদী-নদী/ রক্তে বাংলা লাল কইরাছি  এই কথা তো মিথ্যা নয়।/  দাম দিয়ে কিনেছি বাংলা কারো দানে পাওয়া নয়/ দাম দিছি প্রাণ লক্ষকোটি জানা আছে জগৎময়।’’- গীতিকার ও সুরকার আবদুল লতিফের এই গানটিই বলে দেয় কতটা গর্বের ধন আ’মরি বাংলা ভাষা। 

গোটা ধরীত্রির বহু ভাষাভাষীর মধ্যে শুধুমাত্র আমাদের বাঙলিরাই বুকের তাজা রক্ত দিয়ে মায়ের ভাষায়  মুখের কথা বলার অধিকার আদায় করে গড়েছে সোনালী ইতিহাস। শেকল ভাঙা টগবগে বাংলা মায়ের দামাল ছেলের দল ১৩৫৯ বঙ্গাব্দের ৮ই ফাল্গুন অর্থাৎ ১৯৫২’র একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি সকালে সকল বাধা-বিপত্তি আর ভয়কে জয় করে রাজপথে নেমেছিল বলেই আজ আমরা গর্বের সাথে বলতে পারি, ‘আমি বাংলাভাষী, বাংলা আমার মাতৃভাষা।’ 

 ভাষা আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমে যে সংগ্রাম গোড়া পত্তন হয়েছিল তা  শিক্ষা আন্দোলন, ৬ দফার স্বাধীকার আন্দোলণ হয়ে রুপ নেয় স্বাধীনতাযুদ্ধে। শেষাবধি ১৯৭১-এ নয় মাসের রক্তক্ষয়ী মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পর নতুন দেশ গঠনের মধ্য দিয়ে শেষ হয়। প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় বাংলাদেশ নামে নতুন এক মানচিত্র। আমরা স্বাধীনতাযুদ্ধে বিজয় লাভ করে একটি স্বাধীন সার্বভৌম রাষ্ট্রের নাগরিক হওয়ার যোগ্যতা অর্জন করি।

 ১৯৯৯ সালের ১৭ নভেম্বর ইউনোস্কো ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারিকে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়ায় ভৌগোলিক সীমারেখা অতিক্রম করে পৃথিবীর সব জাতি-গোষ্ঠীর মধ্যে দিয়ে মাতৃভাষা বাংলার জন্য বাঙালির আত্মত্যাগের মহিমা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে।

 সাত’শ কোটির অধিক মানুষের হাজারো ভাষার মধ্যে বাংলা  আজ অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ ভাষা। যে ভাষায় বাংলাদেশ, ভারত, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, আসামসহ কিছু এলাকায় বাংলাভাষী সহ পৃথিবীর প্রায় ২৫  কোটি মানুষ এ ভাষায় কথা বলে মনের ভাব প্রকাশ করে। বিশ্ব জুড়ে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকা আরও বেশ সংখ্যক প্রবাসী বাংলাভাষীতো রয়েছেনই। 

তবে সুখের বিষয় হচ্ছে, বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশ ছাড়াও আফ্রিকার একটি দেশ সিওরিলিওনে রাষ্ট্র ভাষা হিসেবে স্বীকৃত আ’মরি বাংলাভাষা। 

হানাদার পাকিস্তানিরা নানা কৌশলে সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ উর্দু চাপিয়ে দিতে চেয়েছিল, আমরা রক্ত দিয়ে তা প্রতিহত করেছি। সে কথা যেমনি সত্য, তবে  সমৃদ্ধ ভাষা আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমে যে রক্তেজেতা বর্ণমালা পেয়েছিলাম তার দুরাবস্থা এখন আমাদের সবার বিস্ময়ের কারণ।

 ভাষা হিসেবে বাংলারতো একটা প্রকৃত রূপ বা মান রয়েছে। সেই মান সাহিত্যের ভাষা, শিষ্টাচারের ভাষা, ভদ্র কথপোকথনের ভাষা, লেখাপড়ার ভাষা। আমরা ভুলে যেতে  বসেছি যে শুদ্ধ ও পরিশীলিত ভাষা চর্চা করা আবশ্যক। যে যেভাবে পারছে বাংলাভাষার বারটা বাজাচ্ছে।  

মোটকথা হচ্ছে, এতো দিনেও আমরা দেশের সর্বত্র বিশুদ্ধ ভাষা চর্চার কোনো কাঠামো গড়ে তুলতে পারিনি। এবারকার প্রাথমিক সমাপনী পরীক্ষার ফল পর্যালোচনা করে দেখা গেছে শিশুরা বাংলার চেয়ে ইংরেজীতে ভালো করছে। বিষয়টি আসলেই উদ্বেগের। তবে বাস্তবতা ভিন্ন।  

বাংলা মাধ্যমে পড়াশোনা করবেন, দাম নেই। বাংলায় স্নাতকোত্তর  করবেন, ভালো চাকুরী নেই। উচ্চ আদালতে বিচার চাইলেও এর রায়টা পর্যন্ত বাংলায় পাবেন না। ইংরেজী থেকে অনুবাদ করে বুঝে নিতে হবে। 

আর বাংলায় কথা বলবেন কিংবা ফেসবুকে স্ট্যাটাস দিলেনতো আপনার নিজেরই সব ‘ইস্মাটনেস’ আর ‘সোস্যাল স্ট্যাটাস’ চুলোয় যাবে। এমন এক করুন পরিস্থিতে তরুণদের কাছে টানতে এক জগাখিচুরি বাংলার আশ্রয় নিচ্ছে গণমাধ্যম বিশেষ করে এফ রেডিও জকিরা।

উচ্চতর ডিগ্রি অর্জনকারী বা দেশসেরা শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে অধ্যয়ন করা তরুণ সমাজ আজকাল আনাড়ি ফেসবুক ব্যবহারকারী বা মূর্খ-অর্ধ শিক্ষিতদের ব্যঙ্গ করতে গিয়ে এখন তারা নিজেরাই উপহাসের পাত্রে পরিণত হতে চলেছে। 

তারা বেশ আনন্দ চিত্তে মজা করেই লিখে থাকে ফডু, খিচ্চা, মঞ্চায়, গিবনে, হপে, খিচাইছে এমন সব উদ্ভট শব্দ স্ট্যাটাস-কমেন্টে থাকে প্রায় নিয়মিত, যা ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্ম ধরেই নেবে এটাও ভাষা বাংলা। এই বাংলিশ ভাষারীতির সাথে গড়ে উঠেছে এক মনগড়া বিকৃত বাংলাভাষার কালচার। যাতে গা ভাসিয়ে দিচ্ছে আমাদের তরুণ প্রজন্ম। 

এর সঙ্গে আকাশ সংস্কৃতির প্রভাবে হিন্দির আগ্রাসন খানিকটাতো আছেই। বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশে প্রদর্শিত শতকরা ৮০ ভাগ চ্যানেলে হিন্দিতে অনুষ্ঠান হচ্ছে। আমাদের শিশুরা বুদ হয়ে রয়েছে হিন্দি কার্টুন আর ময়েরা সিরিয়ালে। যার ফলে পরিবারের ছেলে-বুড়ো সবাই মনের অজান্তে হিন্দিতে দক্ষ হয়ে উঠছে। প্রায়শই কথা বলছে হিন্দিতে। 

১৯৫২ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলনের জন্য যারা শহীদ হয়েছেন তারা নিশ্চয়ই এরকম জঘন্যভাবে ভাষার বিকৃতি ঘটুক বা বাংলা অবমূল্যায়িত হোক তা চাননি। 

ভাষা আন্দোলন নিয়ে রয়েছে তারুণ্যের বহুমাত্রিক উদ্যোগ বিশ্বের হাতেগোনা যে কয়টি অনুষঙ্গের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশের পরিচিতি ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে তার মধ্যে একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস অন্যতম। 

আগামী প্রজন্মকে এ গৌরবান্বিত ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে সঠিক তথ্য প্রদান, মাতৃভাষা চর্চা ও সম্মান অক্ষুন্ন রাখতে এখনই কাজ করতে হবে। বাংলা ভাষার ইতিহাস আমাদের ভুলে গেলে চলবে না। 

আমরা যেখানে যে মাধ্যমেই লিখি বা বলি না কেন, অবশ্যই খেয়াল রাখতে হবে ভাষার যেন বিকৃতি না ঘটে।  উচ্চ আদালত থেকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কিংবা গণমাধ্যম সর্বস্তরে নিশ্চিত করতে হবে বাংলা ভাষার প্রচলণ। 

এছাড়া আঞ্চলিক ভাষার বিকাশ ও সংরক্ষণসহ ক্ষুদ্রজাতিসত্বার মাতৃভাষাকেও দিতে হবে সমান গুরুত্ব। আদিবাসী সন্তানেরা যদি তাদের মাতৃভাষায় পড়াশুনা এবং চাকুরী গ্রহণে সক্ষম হয় তবেই স্বার্থক হবে ৮’ই ফাল্গুনে ভাষা শহীদের আত্মত্যাগ। 

পরিশোধ করতে পারব তাদের রক্তের ঋণ। আমাদের সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্ঠায় বাংলায় যে বিশ্বসভার দাপ্তরিক ভাষার মর্যাদা পাবে সেদিন আর বেশি দূরে নয়।

A decade of Cyclone SIDR observed in Barisal with Heavy heart

Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament and YouthNet for Climate Justce have observed one decade of super cyclone SIDR with Barisal Reporters Unity marked the memory of horrific incidence with the heavy heart. A discussion meeting was presided over by Barisal Reporters Unity president Nazrul Biswas while among others AH Towfique Ahmed, Zonal Head, UNICEF Barisal Field Office, Sohanur Rahman, Coordinator, YouthNet for Climate Justice, Journalist Susanta Gosh, Bappy Majumdar, Feroz Mostofa, Chairperson, Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament spoke the meeting.

On 15 November 2007, Cyclone Sidr struck the south-west coast of Bangladesh with winds up to 240 kilometers per hour. The category 4 storm was accompanied by tidal waves up to five meters high and surges up to 6 meters in some areas, breaching coastal and river embankments, flooding low-lying areas and causing extensive physical destruction. High winds and floods also caused damage to housing, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Electricity and communication were knocked out, and roads and waterways became impassable. Drinking water was contaminated by debris and many sources were inundated with saline water from tidal surges, and sanitation infrastructure was destroyed.

The cyclone was the second natural disaster to affect Bangladesh in twelve months. Monsoon floods had previously caused extensive agricultural production losses and destruction of physical assets, totaling near US$ 1.1 billion. The occurrence of these events in close succession is a reminder of the country's extreme vulnerability to frequent hydro-meteorological hazards, which stand to be further exacerbated because of climate change.

বরিশাল বিভাগীয় কমিশনার মো নুরুল আমিন বলেছেন, ‘শিশু বিবাহ, শিশু শ্রম ও শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে শারীরিক শাস্তি দূর করে বরিশালকে একটি শিশুবান্ধব বিভাগ হিসেবে গড়ে তোলা হবে। শিশু অধিকার পরিস্থিতি উন্নয়নে বরিশাল বিভাগের সফলতা- অর্জনের পাশাপাশি বিদ্যমান চ্যালেঞ্জগুলোকে মোকাবেল করে শিশুবান্ধব বিভাগ বির্নামানে সর্বাত্তক প্রচেষ্টা চলছে। এজন্য সরকার ও ইউনিসেফের পাশাপাশি সকল বেসরকারি সংস্থাসহ শিশু সংগঠনকে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে।’

শুক্রবার সকাল ১০ টায় বরিশাল সার্কিট হাউজের সম্মেলন কক্ষে বরিশাল বিভাগীয় কমিশনারের কার্যালয় ও জাতিসংঘ শিশু তহবিল ইউনিসেফ বরিশাল অঞ্চলের যৌথ আয়োজনে বাংলাদেশ সরকার ও ইউনিসেফের বরিশাল বিভাগীয় যৌথ কার্যক্রমের উপর দিনব্যাপি এক পর্যালোচনা সভায় সভাপতির বক্তব্যে এসব কথা বলেন।

সভায় বিশেষ অতিথি ছিলেন বরিশাল সিটি কর্পোরেশনের প্রধান নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা নিখিল চন্দ্র দাস, বরগুনা জেলার জেলা প্রশাসক আব্দুল ওয়াহাব ভূঁইয়া। সঞ্চালনা করেন ইউনিসেফের আঞ্চলিক প্রধান এ এইচ তৌফিক আহমেদ।

আরো বক্তব্য রাখেন ভোলা জেলার জেলা প্রশাসক সেলিম রেজা, বরিশাল জেলা শিশু বিষয়ক কর্মকর্তা পঙ্কজ রায় চৌধুরী, ঝালকাঠি জেলা শিশু সংগঠক নারগীস সুলতানা, মাসিক লাল সবুজ নির্বাহী সম্পাদক সোহানুর রহমান প্রমুখ।
